Travel Insurance

Tiger Holidays · Travel Information

Tiger Holidays strongly recommends that all travellers arrange appropriate and comprehensive travel insurance as soon as their holiday is booked.

Travel insurance is not automatically included in your Tiger Holidays package unless this is expressly stated in your booking documentation.

You are responsible for ensuring that the insurance you purchase is appropriate for your destination, personal circumstances, planned activities and the full duration of your trip.

Why Travel Insurance Is Important

Travel does not always go according to plan. Appropriate travel insurance may provide financial protection for circumstances such as:

cancellation or curtailment of your trip;

emergency medical treatment abroad;

medical repatriation to the United Kingdom;

illness or injury before or during travel;

missed departure or travel disruption;

lost, stolen or damaged baggage;

personal liability;

certain delays or transport disruption; and

activities or sports included within the policy.

The exact cover depends on the insurance policy you choose.

You should carefully review the policy wording, limits, exclusions and excesses before purchasing insurance.

Medical Cover

Medical treatment abroad can be expensive.

Your travel insurance should provide sufficient emergency medical cover for your destination and circumstances, including medical repatriation where appropriate.

You should disclose any existing physical or mental health conditions, ongoing investigations, medication or treatment to your insurer where required.

Failure to provide information requested by an insurer may affect your insurance cover or any subsequent claim.

Pre-Existing Medical Conditions

If you or another traveller has a pre-existing medical condition, you should make sure that it is appropriately covered by your insurance policy.

Not all standard travel insurance policies cover every medical condition.

You may need specialist insurance depending on your circumstances.

If you are having difficulty obtaining appropriate cover because of a medical condition, specialist insurers or insurance directories may be able to assist.

Activities and Sports

If you intend to participate in sports, excursions or other activities during your holiday, check that they are covered by your policy.

Depending on the insurer, additional cover may be required for activities such as:

skiing or snowboarding;

scuba diving;

water sports;

adventure activities;

hiking at altitude;

motorised activities; or

other higher-risk activities.

Do not assume that an activity is covered simply because it is available at your destination or is purchased as an optional excursion.

Cancellation Cover

We recommend arranging insurance from the time you book rather than waiting until shortly before departure.

Cancellation charges may apply from the date your Tiger Holidays booking is confirmed.

An appropriate insurance policy may provide cover for certain insured reasons that prevent you from travelling, subject to the terms and exclusions of the policy.

Travel insurance does not normally provide a general right to cancel a holiday simply because you no longer wish to travel.

Your cancellation rights with Tiger Holidays are governed by your Booking Terms and Conditions and the cancellation conditions applicable to your booking; see Cancellation and Refunds.

Travel Disruption

Consider whether your policy provides suitable protection for events such as:

flight cancellation or significant delay;

missed connections;

abandonment of travel;

additional accommodation expenses;

natural disasters;

strikes;

severe weather; and

other significant travel disruption.

Cover varies considerably between insurance policies.

FCDO Travel Advice

You should check the latest UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office travel advice for your destination before booking and again before travelling.

Travel against FCDO advice may affect the validity of some insurance policies.

You should check this directly with your insurer if travel advice changes before your departure.

GHIC and EHIC

If eligible, a UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) or valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) may provide access to certain state healthcare services in participating countries.

However, a GHIC or EHIC is not a replacement for travel insurance.

It may not cover all medical costs and does not provide the wider protection that may be available through travel insurance, such as cancellation, baggage or medical repatriation.

ATOL Protection Is Not Travel Insurance

Where your Tiger Holidays booking is ATOL protected, you will receive an ATOL Certificate identifying the protected travel arrangements.

ATOL protection is financial protection and is not travel insurance.

It primarily provides protection in relation to the insolvency of the relevant ATOL holder for qualifying protected travel arrangements.

You should still obtain suitable travel insurance even where your package is ATOL protected.

Check the Policy Carefully

Before buying travel insurance, check:

the destinations covered;

the travel dates covered;

medical-expense limits;

medical-repatriation cover;

cancellation and curtailment limits;

any pre-existing medical-condition requirements;

baggage and valuables limits;

excess amounts;

activities and sports exclusions;

alcohol-related exclusions;

age restrictions;

travel-disruption cover;

FCDO travel-advice exclusions; and

any other significant exclusions or conditions.

Your insurance should cover the full cost and circumstances of your holiday where reasonably possible.

Who Should Be Covered?

Every traveller included in the booking should have appropriate insurance.

For family or group bookings, check whether the policy covers all travellers and whether any conditions require those travellers to be insured under the same policy.

When Should I Buy Travel Insurance?

We recommend arranging appropriate insurance as soon as you confirm your holiday.

Waiting until shortly before departure may mean that you do not have cancellation cover for events occurring between booking and the date the insurance is purchased.

Tiger Holidays and Insurance

Unless we expressly tell you otherwise during the booking process:

Tiger Holidays does not sell travel insurance;

Tiger Holidays does not arrange travel insurance on your behalf;

Tiger Holidays does not provide personal insurance recommendations or advice;

Tiger Holidays does not assess whether a particular insurance policy meets your individual needs; and

the purchase of travel insurance is your responsibility.

If Tiger Holidays introduces or offers an insurance product in the future, the identity and regulatory status of the insurer or intermediary, together with the applicable policy information and terms, will be provided separately before purchase.

Insurance Claims

Any claim under your travel insurance must normally be made directly to your insurer in accordance with the policy terms.

You should retain relevant documents such as:

your Tiger Holidays booking confirmation;

invoices and payment receipts;

cancellation documentation;

medical reports;

police reports where applicable;

receipts for additional expenses;

baggage reports; and

correspondence relating to travel disruption.

Tiger Holidays can provide reasonable booking documentation relating to your reservation where required for an insurance claim.

Whether a claim is accepted is a matter for your insurer under the terms of your policy.

Insurance and Your Booking Rights

Travel insurance and your rights under your package travel contract are separate.

Having insurance does not remove any statutory rights that you may have against the organiser or relevant travel provider.

Similarly, ATOL protection, package travel protection and travel insurance protect against different types of risk.
